Business Meetings
Business meetings are just a small part of what we do and are necessary to conduct the formal planning of the chapter. They
are also a psuedo-social event, providing an opportunity for everyone to catch up with each other. Attendance
is optional. They are held on the third Tuesday of every month at 7:30 pm. You need no invitation
to attend--just show up! Our "calendar" year begins in September and ends in May, so during the months
of June-August, there are no formal business meetings. Meetings are held at the Hunter House in Vienna, VA. The
Hunter House is in Nottoway Park in Vienna, just off Route 66 and 495.

History of the Chapter
- Founded by Jeff Carter, Laurie Howard, Jeff Lawton, and Kim Smith in 1995. Together, they served as the first Executive
Board as secretary/treasurer, vice president, president, and communications/membership coordinator, respectively. -
The Capital Chapter was officially recognized at the 1996 National Convention in Norfolk. - The Charter was presented
at National Convention in 1997 in Cincinnati. Although the Charter called us the "Washington DC Alumni Chapter,"
we continue to brand ourselves as the Capital Chapter. - The first Meet Me in DC Weekend was held in 1997. There
has been a Meet Me weekend each year since, with attendance growth at each event.
Participation
One of the greatest aspects of the Capital Chapter is its flexibility. We follow a simple philosophy: "What
you put in is what you get out." There are no restrictions or fines for non-attendance of any meeting or event. You may
attend as many (or as few) meetings and events as your busy schedule can accommodate. The only required participation
is paying your dues so that we may fund our chapter outreach and recruitment initiatives.

New Member Information
The Capital Chapter is open to any brothers that graduated from a college or university as a brother good standing. Inductions
for new members are held on the November business meetings. The induction is for ceremonial purposes only. You are
considered an active member upon receipt of your dues. Our chapter sponsors an annual "Meet Me in DC" weekend,
open to all Phi Sigma Pi brothers and alumni. The event is a great way to see what the chapter is all about. For
more information, please write to our email address, CaptialChapter@aol.com.

Dues
Active members pay a $45 annual fee. $20 is for the chapter, $25 goes to Nationals. New members pay an additional
$5 for initiation expenses.
